Read Between The Lines Now Open

Two-time winner of D Magazine’s Best of Dallas award, Read Between The Lines® is a modern stationery and gift company unlike any other you may have previously experienced.

“We’re often told our store feels like a ‘home-away-from-home’ or a customer’s ‘happy place’ – a respite from a hectic world, and a trusted one-stop shop filled with just the right gifts for yourself and those you love.  My goal is for our guests – both women and men – to leave thrilled with what they selected and the care they received, whatever their budget might be.”  says Melinda Jones, Read Between The Lines Founder and Creative Director.

Goods for all include fine greeting cards, candles and fragrance, gifts, journals, pens, leather accessories, coffee table books, home décor, and apparel, as well as gifts for children.

The full collection of Read Between The Lines’ own brand of cards and gifts are on deck, and include greeting cards printed on vintage letterpress machines, notepads, cocktail napkins, accessories, and apparel, featuring original expressions written by Jones.

Customers are also encouraged to experience a handpicked selection of beautifully crafted products by more than 50 artists, many local or Texas-based.  Included are instant must-haves like Belgian towels by Linen Casa, letterpress goods by People I’ve Loved, hand-thrown ceramics from Lemon Glaze, and addictive candles by Boy Smells.

Well-known brands such as Shinola, Rifle Paper Co., Phaidon, Chronicle, Compartes Chocolates, and P.F. Candle Co. ensure there truly is something for everyone.

Luxury collections include German penmakers LAMY and Kaweco, lotions and soaps from Norden and Skandinavisk, French stationery from G. Lalo of Paris, one-of-a-kind jewelry from Dallas-based designer, Julie Cohn, and candles from Cire Trudon, the oldest candle company in the world.

A few long-held dreams of Jones’ came true in the design of the Legacy West space, including bespoke white oak and raw steel bookshelves lining an entire wall of the store, a brass-railed library ladder, a hand-made steel frame storefront, and a ‘pick me up’ window that opens out onto the sidewalk.  Two columns of emerald green subway tiles are by H&E Smith of England, tile maker for special projects in the London Underground.  It’s a happy, cozy space in which to stop in for a greeting card or spend an afternoon shopping for yourself or a friend.

The 1300 square foot space and second location for Read Between The Lines embodies a design collaboration between Melinda Jones (interior design), Mitchell Garman (architecture), and SWOON, the studio (interior and exterior signage design).  The feel is warm and light-filled, with large steel-framed windows, wide-plank white oak floors and vintage furnishings nestled next to modern design. Mid-century era lighting shines from the shop to the studio.

The new store at Legacy West maintains a unique ‘open kitchen’ design concept reminiscent of a restaurant.  Customers may get a glimpse of the company’s studio through sliding glass steel frame windows and observe the inner workings of this start-up while they shop.

In-store events at the Legacy West location will include workshops, trunk shows, private shopping events, and monthly happy hours.

Customers will enjoy warm hosting from the Read Between The Lines Team, whose goal it is to bring joy.  Services such as gift-wrapping, in-store pickup, and snuggling of dogs (and children) are their pleasure.
